Grant African Methodist Episcopal Church, located at 1129 Alamitos Avenue in Long

Beach pastored by Rev. Michael W. Eagle, Sr., invites the public to join in commemorating

the 12th anniversary observance honoring Mothers of Murdered Youth and Children in two

special programs taking place Sunday, May 5, at the church.  The purpose for this

observance is to highlight lives taken too soon, and to call for an end to the violence

that has affected these families and the community at large.  Community activists, public

officials, entertainers, and other celebrities are expected to participate.

At the 10:45 A. M. worship service, the guest speaker will be Rt. Rev. Clement W. Fugh,

Presiding Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church’s 5th Episcopal District.  Bishop

Fugh, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, is an alumnus of the University of Memphis (Bachelor’s

degree in Economics and Finance), Boston University School of Theology (Master of Theology)

and United Theological Seminary (Doctor of Ministry).  He was consecrated Bishop in 2012 and

assigned to oversee the A. M. E. Church’s 14th Episcopal District, comprised of seven countries

in West Africa.  In 2016, he was assigned his present duties presiding over the 5th Episcopal

District, covering 15 states between the Mississippi River and the Pacific Ocean.  At the

10:45 A. M. service, gifts will be distributed to the affected mothers.

At 3:00 P. M., a commemorative and symbolic five-block march will take place in

honor of the victims and their surviving families.  Following the march, a program will be held in

the church sanctuary featuring performances by The Sweet Singing Cava-leers, the California

State University Long Beach Chorale, and other invited guests.

Pastor Eagle emphasizes that these mothers and their deceased children are

not to be ignored or forgotten.   Participants in the events are encouraged to wear the color

brown as a sign of solidarity with the victims.  For further information contact Pastor Eagle or

Grant A. M. E. Church.
