The two guest speakers for this month’s meeting are Sandy Gonering, director of the District’s Accountability Department, who will provide important information on free Supplemental Educational Services available to qualifying students, and Sam Casey and Felicia Jones of Parents-Communities Engaged in Education (P-CEE), an advocacy organization that trains and organizes parents, congregations, and community stakeholders to engage in educational issues to help close the achievement gap.
The meeting is one in a series of monthly meetings offered as part of the District’s efforts to engage African-American parents. To this end, the District holds monthly DAAAC meetings to inform and train interested parents. The meetings are held at
The DAAAC was established through community and District efforts and is facilitated by the District’s Department of Equity and Targeted Student Achievement. Tanya Fisher, the department’s director, invites parents, families, and the community to become more involved in the education of their children by joining the DAAAC.
“We really welcome and value parental involvement,” Fisher said. “One of the best partnerships that we can have is parents and the community voicing and showing concern for their children's education.”
The following are the meeting dates for the 2010-2011 school year: September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1, January 5, February 2, March 2, April 6, May 4, and June 1. For more information about the meetings or to join the DAAAC, call Blanca Olguin at (909) 891-1008.
