HACSB-2010-College

The Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino (HACSB) awarded 15 hard working students with a scholarship to help them pay for their college expenses, in an effort to help students succeed. Over 60 applications were received from residents throughout the County.

For 19 years, the Housing Authority has awarded scholarships to students throughout the County of San Bernardino. Students attending a four-year college or university received a $1,000 scholarship while community and technical/vocational students received a $500 scholarship. The Housing Authority uses non-public funds to promote educational success among their residents.

This year’s scholarship recipients are attending one of the following colleges/universities: California Baptist University; California State Chico; California State Los Angeles; California State San Bernardino; Chaffey College; ITT Technical Institute; Mt. San Antonio College; San Bernardino Valley College; University of California Irvine; University of California Merced; University of Redlands; and University of Washington. Their areas of study include: biology, business, education, engineering, nursing, medicine, and various liberal arts degrees.

“These students are role models in the community and their stories are truly inspirational! Tuition costs are on the rise and scholarships are scarce; therefore, we are thankful that these students can take with them a small scholarship to help them through their educational journey. We look forward to being able to continue to award more scholarships to hard-working students throughout the years,” said Susan Benner, executive director.

The Housing Authority’s goal to help their residents achieve self-sufficiency, and these winners, as well as many other students in the housing programs, are headed on a path towards this and many other positive goals.
