Ghana Last African Hope at World Cup

The ups and downs of the 2010 World Cup seem to never end as more of the giants of the game have been swept aside.

Gone are Italy and France. Both teams were in the 2006 finals, with Italy winning over the French. Portugal, also a quality team, has also been eliminated by favorite Brazil.

Landon Donovan did his part for the USA, but it was not enough as Ghana, the only remaining African team, went overtime to beat the USA in dramatic fashion. Asamoah Gyan ended the American dream.

With the Major League Baseball season in full swing, along with the huge success of the FIFA World Cup being hosted in South Africa, you would think any NBA news would take a back seat since the season has officially been over since the Los Angeles Lakers won their 16th NBA title in franchise history earlier this month. It was the fifth NBA title for finals MVP Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher, the second NBA title for Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and the famous bench mob and the first for new fan favorite Ron Artest.

World Cup: Surprises, Disappointments

Africa 2010 World Cup has shown us an array of ups and downs so far, along with some blunders that may cost some teams a chance to move on in the world’s biggest sporting event.

America can certainly be considered one of the prime victims, and with no chance of any recourse or justice may be done in by a referee’s decision.

There is always animosity towards the match referee before any game. The head man will make a mistake on the field at some point, but for the U.S. national team, that moment could be costly.
