Alaska Fairbanks Signs April Fultz

E-mail Print PDF

Fultz_April2Alaska head coach Cody Burgess announced recently that the women's basketball team signed April Fultz (San Bernardino Valley College) to a National Letter of Intent and she will enter the program as a junior next season.

“April knows how to win and she comes from a very competitive, well-coached program at San Bernardino Valley,” Burgess said. “She’s definitely going to bring maturity and experience to this program at the guard position. She’ll fit very well with Benissa [Bulaya] and Kelly [Logue] as well as some of our signees. She can distribute and penetrate with the ball and can run the floor with her speed. Once she adapts to our system, she’s going to do very well.”

Fultz, a 5-6 guard, played the last two seasons at San Bernardino Valley College and she helped the Wolverines to a pair of Foothill Conference championships, stretching the program’s streak to five straight titles.

This past season, SBVC finished 28-4 overall and 14-0 in conference and was just one win shy in the regional tournament from making it to the state semifinals of the California Community College Athletic Association Championship. Fultz, who was named the SBVC Female Athlete of the Year, was a First Team All-Foothill Conference and a Third Team All-State honoree after she averaged 11.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.6 assists per game. Fultz had 18 double-figure scoring outings, which included four 20-point games.

“Alaska is getting an outstanding player,” San Bernardino Valley head coach Susan Crebbin said. “She goes really hard all the time, is an outstanding defender and a tough kid. She’s been one of the most improved players in my program and she’s only getting better. She will bring physicality, athleticism, speed and strength to the program.”

“That winning mentality is what we need and what we look for in our recruits,” Burgess said. “That’s the type of leadership we want for the returners and newcomers here. It’s going to help in the building process of this program and getting the players to come together as a team.”
