26 Broncos Earn Academic Awards

Twenty-six Cal Poly Pomona student athletes have been awarded the 2009-2010 Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student athletes at the Division II level.

“Our Broncos student athletes honored by the Division II Athletics Directors Association are truly the epitome of academic achievement,” CPP Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Brian Swanson said. “They competed both in the classroom and in their respective sport with outstanding distinction. They continue to ensure Cal Poly Pomona is recognized on a national level while balancing academics and athletics.”

The 26 CPP student athletes are: Rosslyn Beard, Reyana Colson (women’s basketball); John Pollock, Casey Yokubaitis (baseball)I; Luis Briseno (men’s cross country); Denise Salcedo (women’s cross country); Nick Costanza, Daniel Gomez, Russell Vernon (men’s soccer); Bethany Meichsner, Stephanie Sandino, Valerie Strawn (women’s soccer); Keith Boggero, Joshua Lau, Shane McNulty (men’s tennisi); Mallory Brady, Kaitlin Wooldridge (women’s tennis); Jasmine Davis (volleyball); Allison Brewer, Megan Emami (women’s track and field/cross country), and Coty Arnold, Shane Cioni, Anthony Drake, Connor Duckworth, Clark Selters, Matthew Prentice (men’s track and field/cross country).

Meichsner, Lau, Brady, Davis, Salceda, Brewer, Drake and Duckworth are three-time selections, while it marks a repeat for Colson, Emami, Sandino, Wooldridge and Yokubaitis.

Student-athletes recipients must:

*Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale

*Have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work

*Have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
