Herbie’s Life Story: Popular award-winning jazz musician Herbie Hancock is getting ready to pen a memoir expected to be released in 2014. “Quincy Jones is a dear friend of mine and he keeps saying to me, ‘You’ve got to do a book,’” Hancock said Tuesday during a telephone interview with the AP from Shanghai,

where he is currently on tour. “I’ve had a life that has taken many interesting paths. I’ve learned a lot from mentors who were instrumental in shaping me and I want to share what I’ve learned.” The groundbreaking jazz player, who just turned 72 last week, is a winner of 14 Grammys and is known for his creative style of mix of jazz, blues, soul, funk and electronic music. The book will be in part about his spiritual journey as a Buddhist and beyond. He’ll also discuss, of course, music and life. “I am hoping this book will not only appeal to jazz fans,” he said. “Being a musician is not what I am, it’s what I do,” he explained.

Using Stardom for Good: Singer Charlie Wilson is using his celebrity status to bring awareness to prostate cancer. A survivor of the disease, the singer wants to send a message to African American men, alerting them of the issue through a national campaign, M.A.P. (Making Awareness a Priority) about prostate cancer and its disproportionate impact on the African-American community. With the highest incidence of prostate cancer of any race in the U.S., African-American men are 2.4 times more likely to die from the disease than Caucasian men. “When I first learned I had prostate cancer, I thought my career was over. I thought it was a wrap for me,” said Wilson, but his wife quickly proved to be his greatest supporter. “My wife stood tall and told me we were going to get through it. You just have to have a positive heart and go on. That’s what we did and now I want others to know about the resources that are available to them.”

Celebrity Speakers: Oprah Winfrey has accepted an invitation to give Spelman College’s 2012 commencement address, according to the Atlantic Journal-Constitution. The college’s graduation ceremony is set for May 20 at the George International Convention Center. Some 550 students are expected to graduate. Ms. Winfrey is no stranger to Spelman. She received an honorary degree from the college in 1993 and will be given the National Community Service Award this year. Meanwhile, another high profile person--First Lady Michelle Obama--has accepted invitations to speak at three graduations: Virginia Tech, North Carolina A&T and Oregon State University, at which her brother coaches men’s basketball.

Briefly: After 17 years together, Martin Lawrence and his wife Shamicka Lawrence have decided to end their marriage. A representative for Lawrence confirmed the news to People, telling the magazine that the couple made the mutual decision to “part ways.” Martin and Shamicka dated for 15 years before they tied the knot in 2010. The couple has two daughters, Amara and Iyana ... Acording to TMZ, Tawanna Iverson claims former NBA star Allen Iverson  has been harassing her and her family, and now she wants a restraining order. Tawanna Iverson just filed legal docs in the couple’s bitter divorce battle claiming Allen “has engaged in increasingly contemptuous, threatening, and disturbing behavior” over the last few months.

Finally: Sister, Sister star Tamera Mowry-Housley and husband Adam Housley, a correspondent for Fox News, are expecting their first child. Tamera, 33, who married Adam, 40, last May, said the baby is due in early November. Tamera’s twin sister, Tia, gave birth to her first child, a son named Cree Taylor Hardrict, in June 2011.
