A beautiful celebration of life for Mrs. Harmon, and the support of our community was tremendous. They say there is strength in numbers, and in the case of the Harmon family it is unity ... Speaking of strength, you say Connie Jones through it all and welcome home Rags.

Santa Ana Readies for Bank Protests

With so many banks crying poverty under the emergency TARP bailout last November until now with tightfisted lending that’s sinking small businesses, it’s hard not to notice the tens of millions of dollars in payouts that keep coming for top banking executives.

Not to mention those tens of millions in profits for shareholders that came down since the TARP.

From now through March 26,  the California Labor Federation and AFL-CIO will head protests in a rolling campaign through all 50 states to remind America that that the banks were initially directly responsible for the largest collapse of the economy since the Great Depression.

A little of last week’s column included sympathy to the Harmon family, and that Mrs. Harmon was a liked, loved and lovely lady. Services at Fairhaven on March 19 at 2 p.m.; also to Roscoe Bogan, who lost his daughter, and to Jim Bowman’s mother.

A great effort by the committee folk for the Cultural Faire. NAACP president and Executive Board members manned the VIP booth. James Jones did an unusual entertainment line up and will need our support for his June 5th tribute at Memorial Park; also lots of thanks to Eula Nelson who has never wavered in her support of a Black History Parade and Faire, and of course congrats to Brandon Nelson who is a VIP with Jet Blue. RobertPalmerLCal State Fullerton President Milton A. Gordon addressed congregants recently at Love and Unity Church of God in Christ in Compton as part of a California State University effort to encourage early planning for college and the involvement of community members as mentors for young people.

On the same Sunday, Robert L. Palmer Jr., Cal State Fullerton vice president for student affairs, addressed members of Corona Community Church.

The fifth annual CSU “Super Sunday” campaign began in late January and continued throughout February. Dozens of CSU presidents, trustees and administrators reached out to more than 100,000 families in approximately 100 African American congregations throughout the state to encourage early preparation — as early as middle school — for college.

Congrats to Dr. Ernie Bridges and all who supported the reception and movie at Fullerton College … Special thanks to Gloria Banks (Baker) for the baking ... Also to Bobby MacDonald, Orange County Black Chamber, for a tremendous turnout ... Always surprised when folks talk about how long they've been in Orange County and I don't know them? Never heard of them? … Thanks to Auntie Barbara (Junious) for the glasses.
