dee-andrewsSixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, along with the Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine, Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services, St. Mary Medical Center, Long Beach Branch NAACP, Long Beach Ministers Alliance,

Long Beach Boys & Girls Club and Long Beach YMCA will host the annual Juneteenth Celebration, from 11:00 am – 2:30 pm, on Saturday, June 16th, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach.

Juneteenth is the celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States.  "I am so excited that we will once again celebrate the important and historical landmark ruling of the final end of slavery.  We will celebrate both our rich heritage and great achievements with a big family style BBQ picnic," said Councilman Dee Andrews.

The celebration will showcase performances by local choirs, dance troops and other entertainers. There will also be a good ole fashion community BBQ of hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as, the annual domino tournament, softball game, and Zumba dancing.

As a reminder, the celebration is a free open-air festival, so bring your own chairs and blankets for seating. There will be a Health Pavilion which includes free various health screenings. Kids will enjoy a spectacular children’s area with water games, jumpers, arts & crafts and much more. There's something for everyone at this year's celebration!
