CSUSB to Host Free Financial Series

Cal State Long Beach To Host Free Financial Series Focusing  On Family Issues

Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 31, the Office of Gift Planning at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) will host a three-part series that will present practical strategies individuals can use when managing difficult family situations

or a family member’s incapacity both during your lifetime and in your estate plan.

Financial professionals from the areas of law, insurance and finance will present information and answer questions on a variety of topics.  The series is free and available to the general public. Due to space limitations, registration is required.

The final two sessions will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Tuesday, Feb. 21. Each seminar will run from 5-6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Barrett Athletic Administration Center, located just south of the Walter Pyramid.

The dates and topics of each seminar are:

•         Jan. 31: Trustee Tales—Cautionary tales about conflicts that may arise during trust/will administration due to issues with blended families, in-laws, addiction, and elder abuse/fraud.

•         Feb. 7: Dealing with Incapacitated Family Members—Incapacity assessment, MediCal planning, coordinating VA benefits and using retirement funds to pay for care.

•         Feb. 21: What to Do to Avoid the Pitfalls—How to communicate about difficult topics with family members, protective trusts for blended families, and how to choose the right trustee who can handle your situation.

Speakers will include Susan Birmingham, business coach and consultant; Donna Bogdanovich, independent professional fiduciary; Kari Buist-Butler, founder and CEO, Senior Life Management; Jessica Dorman Davis, attorney, Freeman, Freeman and Smiley; Karin Finnegan, trust officer, Farmers and Merchants Trust Company; Shawn Lefebvre, financial consultant; Michael McGuire, attorney, California Elder Law Center, Inc.; Shawn McGuire, veterans benefits coordinator, California Elder Law Center, Inc.; Michael Munn, certified public accountant; and Joel Samaniego Napalan, trust officer, Union Bank of California.

Parking is available in Lot 13 or parking structure 1, and individuals can purchase a day parking permit for $5 from the yellow parking permit dispensers located in both parking areas.
