June 16 – A Juneteenth celebration will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at M.L. King Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach. The celebration will feature local choirs, dance troupes and other entertainment; an old-fashioned community BBQ of hamburgers and hot dogs, the annual domino tournament, softball game and Zumba dancing. The event is free; bring your chairs and blankets for seating. There will be health booths, various free health screenings, a children’s area and water games, jumpers, arts & crafts, lots more. June 26 – Organizers of “100,000 Praying African American Women” will have an initial gathering at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Spearheaded by Rev. Elizabeth Dowdy, the notorious shooting deaths of two black teens this year prompted black female religious leaders to launch a campaign for justice and divine intervention.
