September 19 – The Long Beach Triathlon will be held at 7 a.m. along the downtown shoreline. The 12th annual triathlon is in its second year as a fundraising event to help the community recognize that HIV is still a big problem in this country. Athletes compete in a 1/2 mile swim, an 11-mile cycling race and a 3-mile run. All proceeds go towards supporting the AIDS resource and education program at St. Mary Medical Center.
