August 7 – The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) hosts a program, “Mow Down Air Pollution” from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Orange County Great Park in Irvine (entrance at Sand Canyon and Marine Way). Program allows residents to trade in a polluting gasoline-powered lawn mower for a new zero-emission model at a discount of up to 75 percent. Program requires pre-registration. August 7 - Stone Soul makes its Concerts in the Grove debut at 7:30 p.m. at Cal State University Long Beach in Soroptimist House terrace located just off Beach Drive. August 14 – The Orange County branch NAACP holds its monthly general meeting from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Bowers Museum, 2002 North Main St., Santa Ana. Guest speaker will be Judge Karen L. Robinson, who will present an overview of the Superior Court system. August 14 – The Fullerton Arboretum hosts its annual Tomato Tasting and Sizzlin’ Summer Salsa Contest from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the open pavilion area of the O.C. August 15 – The Los Angeles chapter of the National Congress of Black Women hosts its first West Coast Anniversary Installation and Awards Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach, 200 South Pine Avenue, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. The event features the unveiling of sculptures by Artis Lane who is the artist responsible for the Sojourner Truth Memorial now at the U.S. Capitol Visitors Center, Emancipation Hall in Washington, D.C.
