July 22-25 – The 44th state Women’s Convention of Southern California Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ will be held at the Desert Springs J.W. Marriott Resort & Spa. July 24 – “Hallelujah” (1929), directed by King Vidor, a cinematic musical talkie (an early sound film) about an African American sharecropper who falls for a temptress will be shown at 4:00 p.m. at the Mayme Clayton Library and Museum, 4130 Overland Avenue in Culver City. August 7 – The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) hosts a program, “Mow Down Air Pollution” from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Orange County Great Park in Irvine (entrance at Sand Canyon and Marine Way). Program allows residents to trade in a polluting gasoline-powered lawn mower for a new zero-emission model at a discount of up to 75 percent. Program requires pre-registration.
