July 14-22 – The Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority hosts its 53rd Biennial Boule at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa in Indian Wells. Workshops begin at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 17. Public events include a concert with Kelly Price with comedian Akintunde Warmock and hip hop violinests Nuttin’ But Strings as the opening acts. July 17 – Farmers Insurance brings some of the famous past and present soccer players to the Home Depot Center in a friendly match at 1:00 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the Rafa Marquez Foundation to support the construction of a children’s center in Zamora, Michoacan, and Eva’s Heroes to support the construction of a social center in San Antonio, Texas to care for children with disabilities and special needs. July 24 – “Hallelujah” (1929), directed by King Vidor, a cinematic musical talkie (an early sound film) about an African American sharecropper who falls for a temptress will be shown at 4:00 p.m. at the Mayme Clayton Library and Museum, 4130 Overland Avenue in Culver City.
