Sports Writer Jay Kitchen Succumbs at 50

Jay Benjamin Kitchen, former Sports and Entertainment Writer for the Precinct Reporter passed away on Friday, May 11.  He was 50 years old.

Jay lived most of his life in Colton and graduated from Colton High School.

He was a soccer referee with organizations IESRA and Colton AYSO.  He coached both his children’s soccer teams over the years. He served for many years as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner for the city of Colton.

He was very active in many communities covering sporting events and concerts.

Jay is survived by his son Antonio Jay Kitchen and daughter Adrianna Mina Kitchen, daughter in law Teresa Kitchen, granddaughter Mayleen Lynette Kitchen of Grand Terrace, brother John Kitchen, sister in law Michelle Lopez Kitchen and nephew Reese Kitchen of Colton, father James Kitchen of San Bernardino.  Jay also had many other relatives and friends he leaves behind.  He is preceded in death by his mother Olivia Balbina Murguia.

Jay had the love and support of his aunts and uncles Linda and Glenn Murguia, Anna and Ed Leon, Gloria and Ben Murguia, Armida and Gary Yee and their families to which Jay’s children and former wife Tembi Tovar would like to personally thank.

Services will be held on Sunday, May 20, at 1:00 pm at Montecito Valley View Chapel located at 3520 E. Washington Street in Colton.
